The Bourbon Chase

At the KDF Mini/Marathon Expo, I got a chance to chat with the Bourbon Chase organizers:

The Bourbon Chase is an overnight team relay along the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Teams of 6 (ultra) to 12 runners cover 200 miles by completing 3 legs per runner, with each leg varying from 3-7 miles.

The course takes runners through the heart of the Bluegrass...rolling hills, pristine thoroughbred farms and, naturally, historic bourbon distilleries.

The race begins on October 9th, 2009 near the Jim Beam facility and ends the following day in Lexington at the Mecca of College Basketball, Rupp Arena (I had to slip that in).

In Kentucky we take our horse-racing and our bourbon very seriously. The Bourbon Chase brings in the best of both!

So take a moment to check out their website: http://www.bourbonchase.com/

That's where you can find all the details on the course, FAQs and even info on putting a team together, even if you don't have 12 runners!

Running + horse country + Kentucky bourbon = what more do you want?

  1. Sounds like a lot of work, but even more fun. :)

  2. We must do this. And, hopefully, there are bourbon stations every hundred meters or so.

  4. So...does this mean you are assembling a team? If so, I'm interested but I can't see me having the energy to put one together. Let me know if you need members and I will strongly considered running a leg or 2.

  5. ok...I read more on the website and I'm interested. I just read that each runner will do at least 3 legs. Again, I'm very interested and will do my part to help if you want to get a team together. It looks like a lot of fun. I mean....you don't have to include me if you have other plans, I'm just saying if you need people. :)

  6. Joe-- I'm feeling it out and I'll keep you posted! I really want to! If I can't run in it this year I'd like to volunteer.

  8. Are you running it? In Texas we have a similar race called the Texas Independence Relay. I was the captain two years ago, but half my teammates dropped out on me! It was a total failure, but I'd love to be on a committed team someday!

  10. My wife and I live in NKY up by Cincy...We have looked at this race and thought it would be cool to run. We are possibly looking for a team to run with...It just seems hard to find 12 people that want to run 1 leg...let alone 3. Let me know if you run this and if you are looking for people.
