So, what now?

I guess everyone goes through the post-marathon "NOW WHAT" phase.

I kind of love it...of course I want to do another marathon (probably KDF in April) but I also like the "no pressure" running I get to do now.

Well, for the most part.

My next race is the Bluegrass 10K on July 4th and I'd like to set a new PR. I guess that means tempos runs and track workouts, neither of which I really bothered with while marathon training.

Here's my tentative 10k training schedule:

Monday- 3 miles
Tuesday- Mid-distance runs (4-6 miles)
Wednesday- Tempo runs / Speed workouts

Thursday- 3 miles
Friday- Rest
Saturday- Long runs (6+)
Sunday- Cross training

You'll notice my "long" runs aren't really that long and that's simply because I don't need to run 12 miles to get ready for a 10k in July. But I probably will.

If the sun comes out I will try to run an easy 3 miles this afternoon.

As for the long term plan, I'd like to run the Louisville Half Marathon in October, KDF Marathon in April and return to West Virginia for the Hatfield McCoy Marathon next year.

I've got a fever...and the only cure...is more cowbell marathon!

  2. Yes definitely enjoy some less stress runs. I am really impressed with your marathon performance. You have earned a bit of a break. I am thinking of running the Louisville Marathon in October and then the KDF next year. Only problem with the Louisville Marathon in Oct is I am running a half in Evansville the sunday before. Just have to think about that a little more.

  3. Thanks! I'm excited to see what the Louisville Marathon has in store...I would love to run the full but I don't know what my study load will be like in my first semester.

And hopefully KDF 2010 won't be quite as, er..."balmy" as it was this year!

I think you could do a half a week before the Louisville Marathon, no problem...I feel 99% recovered from Saturday and I'm dying to hit the road again.

  4. Great job! I am a new runner, and know from running family members and friends that it is a "fever". I, however, just don't have it yet. I've only been running since January, and I have until January when I run my first half marathon. Reading your blog is inspirational and enjoyable. Thanks!

  6. I think I'm in for the KDF marathon and the Bourbon Chase 2010 if I can get a big enough team or get set up with a team that needs runners. I'd love to see the KDF marathon get bigger and I guess the only way is for us local peeps to keep signing up!
