Anyway...I was chatting with my BFF on instant messenger about volunteering at the Louisville Ironman.
She's a cycling junkie, so started asking her questions about cycling etiquette, rules of the road, etc.

FYI-- I'm totally safe on the roads and respectful of cyclists. I've never had a problem with them and I don't expect I will.
My friends and I can (and often do) debate stuff like this for HOURS. Though typically the fictional match-ups involve T-1000, Batman and Predator.
I am so scared I am going to hit a cyclist on the road one day...a lot of them don't follow the rules of the road!
ReplyDeleteIt freaks me out too...especially on the back-roads. I wish they all had those side mirrors attached to their helmets so they can see me coming!
ReplyDeleteAs a new cyclist, one thing I've realized is how aware I am when riding. Remember that not only are you watching them, but most know you are back there and they are watching you. It can be frustrating for motorists(I used to be the frustrated guy) but the fact is(I'm not preaching) they have rights to the road too. As a runner 1st, it seems kind of odd running against traffic while riding with traffic. When running I know what is coming, and regardless of how aware I am there is still a little unknown about the car coming up behind me.
ReplyDeleteBack roads have less stop signs so that's my reason for riding them. I try to do my riding early morning on the weekends. Just wanted to add, sorry if it is too long.
I love passing cyclists on a run...I feel like we have an understanding, like we are both out there busting our butts while everyone else in the world is still sleeping!
